First Friday for Folk Music features Nashville's Joni Bishop, Ferrelle and Bible

The Savannah Folk Music Society's October First Friday for Folk Music will mark the 15th Savannah Folk Music Festival and the 100th edition of its monthly concert series The featured artist for the October 1st "First Friday" is Joni Bishop, a talented vocal and visual artist from Nashville making her second First Friday visit. Before and after Ms. Bishop will be Savannah/Tybee Island singer/songwriter Dodd Ferrelle and Texan Jason Bible.

Bishop's musical journey began at an early age. She got a guitar in her teens and learned to play it from listening to folk, country and blues records she borrowed from her brother. She discovered a gift not only for song writing as well as a finger-style of playing the guitar. After completing her formal education at the University of Wisconsin, she followed her passion for music and hit to road to develop her writing and presentation style. She has performed for audiences worldwide. Her songs have been recorded by major stars in the pop, folk and country worlds. She has five albums to her credit. She brings to the stage distinctive songs, a powerful voice and intricate guitar arrangements. Ms. Bishop will be accompanied by John Powers.

Dodd Ferrelle's recent release, "Sweet Lowland," is a compilation of songs inspired by Tybee Island and Savannah. Dodd is a fifth generation Savannah native and returns to his roots often for songwriting inspiration. His band, "The Tinfoil Stars," performs frequently in the local area and well beyond, but this is an opportunity to hear Dodd Ferrelle deliver his lyrics in more fundamental acoustic style in his First Friday debut.

Jason Bible, a Texas transplant, has made frequent appearances at First Friday. With obvious influence from Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, Bible delivers his lyrics with rawness and sincerity while accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica. His emotion and intensity is riveting.

"First Friday for Folk Music" is a production of the Savannah Folk Music Society and held at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, 429 Abercorn Street on Calhoun Square in Savannah's historic district. It is smoke-free, alcohol-free and family-friendly. There is a recommended donation of $2 per person. Beverages and homemade fresh baked goods are available for purchase.
