Savannah Storytellers celebrating story craft with annual Tellabration

For Coastal Senior

The art of storytelling will come to life as Betty Ann Wylie and Neville Carson headline an evening of stories for Savannah's Tellabration 2000.

If you go

Savannah Storytellers will present Tellabration 2000 at 7:30 p.m. Nov. l7 at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Ave. $5 admission. Storyteller Betty Ann Wylie will present a workshop on Nov. 18 from 10 a.m-noon at the Hellenic Center, 14 W. Anderson St. Fee will be $10. For more infonnation about Tellabration 2000 or to pre-register for the workshop, call Bess Chappas at (912) 354-7688.

This is a return engagement for Wylie, who presented at the Savannah Tellabration a couple of years ago. Nurtured by the storytelling tradition of the Deep South, Wylie has developed her own voice, which can be soft and silky as a magnolia blossom on a June day or as ominous as the Okefenokee Swamp on a moonless night. She has 35 years of experience in delighting both children and adults with her stories.

Carson is relatively new to the storytelling scene. He began as a writer and has found a perfect blend of writing and storytelling. His telling combines the bombastic fire breathing of a tent revival preacher with the timing and humor of late night TV comedians. He is a master at adapting old favorites, such as fairy tales and Br'er Rabbit stories to comical contemporary situations.

This is the Fifth Annual Tellabration event for Savannah Storytellers. Tellabration is an annual worldwide event presented on the third weekend in November. For more about Tellabration on the national level, go to www.tellabration.org.
