Religious scholar and writer to speak at Temple Mickve Israel

Scholar and writer Rabbi A. James Rudin will present a lecture entitled "Catholics and Jews: the Unfinished Agenda" at Savannah's Temple Mickve Israel on March 23 at 5:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open the public. A reception for Rudin will be in the temple's education building immediately following the lecture.
Rudin is known for his expertise in interreligious education and his efforts promoting peace and understanding between religions. He recently retired from the American Jewish Committee, serving first as interreligious affairs director and then as senior advisor of interreligious affairs. He is past chairman of the International Jewish Committee for Interreligious Consultations, and met with Pope Paul II at the Vatican and in the United States and Israel. He is the founder of the National Interreligious Task Force on Black-Jewish Relations and a member of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday Commission.
In 1997 Rudin received the "Person of Recognition" award from the Polish Council of Christians and Jews in Warsaw and the first Joseph Award given by Villa Nazareth. In 1999 he was awarded an Interfaith Medallion by the International Council of Christians and Jews.
Rudin is a distinguished visiting professor of religion and Judaica at Saint Leo University and this lecture is one in a series he is delivering at the University's many locations.
