St. John's Episcopal Church music series continues with Texas Boys Choir

The Texas Boys Choir will perform in Savannah on April 14, at 3 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church on Madison Square.

One of the nation's premiere professional touring choirs, The Texas Boys Choir was founded in 1946 and has made at least one national or international performance tour every year since. The choir has made over 30 commercial recordings and garnered two Grammy Awards. Touring programs are rich in variety and include the choir's trademark songs of the American West and patriotic songs, as well as works for the traditional treble choir and works for the entire choir.

The choir operates its own school in Fort Worth, Texas, where its members receive artistic training and an accredited academic education which is now growing to gradually cover the high school grades. It was founded to give any boy who qualifies, regardless of economic or ethnic background, a grounding in self-discipline, self-confidence, etiquette and patriotism as well as to create a world-class professional choir of boys.

The church's music series continues May 5 with a Choral Concert, The English Choral Tradition, featuring works by C. Hubert H. Parry. Parry was one of the most influential English composers since Henry Purcell. He was strongly rooted in the romantic traditions of such composers as Brahms, Chopin and Wagner. Parry composed for a variety of genres; however, he was most well known for his choral works.

The combined choirs of St. John's Church - the Adult Chancel Choir, the Men's and Boys Choir, and the Girls Choir - will be joined by members of the orchestra.

Both events are free of charge and will be held at St. John's Church. For more information, call (912) 232-1251.
